Blog # 1 Welcome Back to School: Junior Year!

And they're off!!

1) I want to do well in all of my classes as I have done in the past. I know I shouldn't be motivated by grades but that is almost all I ever think about. I want to make the grade. I want to impress collages ect... I plan to improve my critiquing skill and I want to learn to take critique better. I rarely feel the need to change things based on what my peers say. I plan on taking all honors classes so I hope that I can succeed in that. I know its ambitious but I'm going to do it anyways. I want to be challenged. In the past school work has been easy for me so this year I hope for more. I also would like to widen my vocabulary and perfect my spelling (spell check has made me lazy!).

2) In Humanities I would like to do a lot of reading. I also want to get away from the sad war novels and move on the the classics. If we don't in class I do plan to do it on my own! Once again I want to widen my vocabulary partially in preparation for the SAT and also just because it would be nice. I want to work on my creative writing skill because I love creative writing I would like to do a lot of that. I also would like to learn more about how to do research and turn it into a research paper because I know there are a lot of those in college and I would like to know what I am doing. I want to write loads of thesis's and improve on that too!

3) I am a natural leader. I don't know if I have ever done a project where I haven't taken on the leadership role. I don't choose it either. I am often told by my peers to be the leader or nobody else takes initiative so I do. As a camp councilor of course you are a leader. I use my time there to develop my patience which is often in short stock during the school year. I guess practice is the main way I develop that skill.
I am also a dancer. I have been dancing since I was 2 and I like to think that I am pretty good at it. I take classes during the school year and I love every second of it. Dancing is also a lot about the practice and also the final performance. The chance to show off to hundreds of people is definitely a big motivating factor in my drive to succeed in dance.

My thougths on Hobbes

3 laws of nature = perfect government

1st law

Seek peace as far as possible if not defend yourself

No one goes into battle just to battle the go into battle for self preservation

2nd law

Be content for the sake of peace and preservation. Provided other are also content with only so much liberty against other men as you would allow other men against yourself

Communist?

3rd Law

Men perform the covenants they have made.

Men seem to keep the covenants/promises.

I doubt a government could work under those 3 laws without any sub laws and there will always be people who won’t follow laws

I think that the 2nd law is like our golden rule “Do unto others as you would have them do to you”

I don’t think there are any other laws you could put in place other than those 3 that wouldn’t be immediately rebelled against.

Characterizations

My quote is from "Those Who Don't" on page 28. The Direct Characterization is "the big one who looks like a dumb grown man" This characterization gave me a very strong image of what the author was trying to portray. And I immediately new the kind of person she was talking about. I could hear the way the man would talk and even see the way he would walk. The sentence might have been blunt but it really got across what the author was saying.

My other quote is from "Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark" on page 56. The Indirect Characterization is: "I've never seen my papa cry". As the reader this made me assume that her papa was a brave and strong man who doesn't cry at just anything. I felt how shocked the author was to see him cry and I new how she felt because I recently saw my dad cry for the first time.

My first blog.

So this is a picture from this summer, I went on a backpacking trip with a girl scout summer camp. It was pretty awesome and hardcore and I really enjoyed myself. We went out to Noble Canyon and hiked from the top of the mountain to the bottom, we pumped water and cooked over a camp stove it was the most fun I've ever had.
